Bridge City Volunteers Honor Veterans with Memorial Day Flag Placement
Volunteers from Vaydon’s Table gathered at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Memorial Day to place American flags on veterans' graves, paying tribute to those who served our country.
Vaydon’s Table is a local organization dedicated to supporting veterans and active-duty military members through holiday meals, encouragement, and community connection.
The organization was inspired by active-duty soldier Carroll Bunyard, who shared with his mother, Stephanie Bunyard, that some fellow soldiers stayed on base during the holidays because they had nowhere else to go. Stephanie responded by opening her home and heart to them, telling the soldiers they would always have a place at her table.
That spirit of belonging became the foundation of Vaydon’s Table — a place where no one sits alone.
The organization will host its annual Thanksgiving meal on November 22 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bridge City Community Center. The event will feature live music by Jamie Bergeron and The Kicking Cajuns.
Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing Near Port Arthur Airport
A small plane made an emergency landing Friday afternoon near Jack Brooks Regional Airport in Port Arthur after experiencing a mechanical failure mid-flight. The aircraft came to rest in a field near Highway 365 around 4:30 p.m. Officials said the pilot attempted to reach the airport runway before being forced to land on airport property. Two people were aboard the plane, and neither suffered injuries. The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are investigating the incident.
Orange County Man Charged with Capital Murder Following Deadly Disturbance
Orange County investigators have arrested 45-year-old Jonathan Mathews and charged him with capital murder following a deadly disturbance on Med Davis Road in Orange. Deputies responding to the scene found 28-year-old Jacqueline Michelle Jeffrey suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. She was transported to a Beaumont hospital, where she later died. Mathews, who also had injuries, was detained at the scene. Investigators gathered witness statements and video evidence before obtaining an arrest warrant
