Orange County Loses One of Its Most Dedicated Volunteers
Pam Scales Honeycutt, a beloved fixture in Orange County civic life, passed away July 25 at age 75. Known for her signature cowgirl hat, long braid, and ever-present smile, Pam volunteered tirelessly for decades — working with the Orange Lions Club, co-chairing the effort to build the castle playground at Lions Den Park, helping establish the Orange County Expo Center, and co-founding the Cowboy Church of Orange County some 20 years ago. Before retirement, she managed the TxDOT Travel Information Center on I-10 and earned the agency's prestigious Road Runner Award. Orange County Commissioner Chris Sowell noted Tuesday that there's probably no one else in the county who has volunteered so much or worked with as many organizations. Read More

LifeShare Blood Centers has two upcoming blood drives in Bridge City this week. You can donate Friday, July 31 from 2–7 p.m. at the Walmart on Texas Avenue, or Saturday, August 1 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at Saint Paul Methodist Church on Roundbunch Road. Mark your calendars — the Lutcher Theater is bringing Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol to Orange on Sunday, December 6, 2026, with shows at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The production reimagines Dickens' classic with music and lyrics by the eleven-time Grammy winner herself, setting Ebenezer Scrooge as the owner of a 1930s Appalachian mining town.
