Firefighters Union: Orange Fire Dept Was Severely Understaffed During Beckett & Beckett Fire
In the wake of Tuesday morning's industrial fire at Beckett & Beckett on Highway 87, the Orange Professional Firefighters Association is speaking out — saying the city's fire department was severely understaffed when crews arrived on scene. The union and city officials have been in an ongoing contract dispute over health benefits and staffing levels. Crews from Orange, Orange County ESD #2, and West Orange all responded to battle the blaze, which burned the facility's offices and took hours to bring under control. The union's concerns add a new dimension to the incident as the city works through budget talks.

LSCO Receives $25,000 from Dow for Machinist Training Program
Lamar State College Orange has received a $25,000 grant from Dow Sabine River Operations to purchase a new CNC machine for the college's Machining Program. The program launched in January 2026 as the first manual machining program of its kind in the region, created in partnership with local industry partners who identified a critical need for trained machinists and millwrights in Southeast Texas. The new CNC machine will expand training capacity and give students hands-on experience with the technology used in modern industrial settings — helping pipeline more skilled workers into the area's manufacturing sector.
