West Orange Walmart Celebrates Grand Reopening After Renovations
After 41 years as a cornerstone of the community, the West Orange Walmart has reopened following renovations — and the City of West Orange is rolling out the welcome mat. City officials called the store "much more than just a place to shop," recognizing Walmart as a reliable neighbor that has provided jobs, supported local families, and stepped up during challenging times for decades. Governor Abbott Awards LSCO Nearly $490,000 for Workforce Training
Governor Greg Abbott announced a $489,624 Skills Development Fund grant to Lamar State College Orange, in partnership with Arlanxeo, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Indorama Ventures. The grant will fund customized training for 241 new and current workers headed into high-demand careers — including fire and safety specialists, nurses, machinists, chemical engineers, and lab technicians. Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Alberto Treviño III presented the award at a ceremony at LSCO. The Skills Development Fund has helped train workers for over 446,000 jobs across Texas since 1996. Read More
Orange County Burn Ban Now in Effect
Heads up, Orange County: all outdoor burning is prohibited. County Judge John Gothia issued a countywide outdoor burn ban effective 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, citing dry conditions and a significant wildfire risk across the region. The ban covers all of Orange County and remains in place until further notice. County officials say they will continue monitoring weather and ground conditions and will lift the ban when it's deemed safe. Read More
