Tropical System Eyes Texas-Louisiana Coast; Orange County in the Zone
A tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico is likely to become Tropical Storm Edouard — and Orange County is squarely in its sights. As of Monday, the system was about 130 miles from Morgan City, Louisiana, and 230 miles from Port Arthur, slowly tracking north-northwest. Forecasters expect landfall Tuesday afternoon somewhere between Galveston and Sabine Pass — putting Southeast Texas directly in the cone. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the upper Texas coast and southwest Louisiana. Rainfall of 3–6 inches is expected for coastal Texas, with isolated totals up to 9 inches possible. Stark Museum Launches Free Monthly
Playdate Series for Little Ones
The Stark Museum of Art is kicking off a brand-new monthly Playdate series for children 5 and under — and it's completely free. Beginning Saturday, September 13, Playdate runs the second Friday of every month (September through May) from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Each session is packed with hands-on art-making, music, movement, imaginative play, and storytelling designed to build fine motor skills and spark creativity in the youngest art lovers. $42 Million Shopping Center Moving Forward in Orange — But Neighbors Have Questions
A major new shopping center is coming to Orange, and it's picking up speed. The project — dubbed "Project Capstone" — is expected to top $42 million and bring significant new retail to the area. The City of Orange EDC has already approved a $2 million incentive grant for developer Candace Development Partners. But as the project moves forward, neighbors are raising concerns about traffic and potential crashes near the site. One resident also flagged worries about trash blowing onto adjacent properties. Developers say they will address those issues. Construction is slated to begin later this year. Read More
