Tropical Storm Edouard Makes Landfall, Orange County Responds
Tropical Storm Edouard made its move toward the northwest Gulf Coast Tuesday, prompting Orange County to close all non-emergency offices at 2pm. Orange County public schools, Deweyville, and Lamar campuses all cancelled classes for the day as the storm's center tracked toward southeast Texas. At 4am Tuesday, Edouard was located near latitude 29.0 North with sustained winds near 40 mph and the potential to approach hurricane strength before landfall. West Orange Police Department Receives Carter Kits Thanks to Walmart Grant
The West Orange Police Department has received a $2,500 community grant from West Orange Walmart Store #777 to equip every patrol unit with a Carter Kit — a sensory bag containing noise-reducing headphones, weighted lap pads, fidget tools, and communication cards designed to calm and reassure children who are overwhelmed, frightened, or in crisis. Created in 2019 by a police detective whose son is on the autism spectrum, Carter Kits are now in service across 44 states. The kits give West Orange officers an immediate tool when responding to calls involving children with autism, sensory processing differences, or trauma — helping lower the temperature and build trust in some of the community's most difficult moments. Chevron Phillips Chemical's Southeast Texas Chemical Complex has donated $15,000 to the LCM High School Career & Technical Education Department to fund materials and upgrades. The contribution reflects CPChem's ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of the region's industrial workforce, investing directly in the hands-on programs that prepare LCM students for careers in the area's chemical and manufacturing industries.
