As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Southeast Texas first responders who traveled to Ground Zero are sharing their memories of those harrowing days. Local firefighters and emergency workers who responded to New York City in the aftermath of the attacks recall the devastation they witnessed, the camaraderie that carried them through, and the lasting impact the experience has had on their lives and careers. Country music legend Ricky Skaggs brings his band Kentucky Thunder to the Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts on Saturday, September 26, at 7 p.m. A 15-time Grammy Award winner and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Skaggs is credited with helping revive traditional country and bluegrass music. Southeast Texas Dog Owners Should Watch for Signs of Screwworm
With 47 confirmed New World screwworm cases across Texas — including in livestock and at least one dog — pet owners in Southeast Texas should be on alert. The flesh-eating parasite can infect any warm-blooded animal through open wounds, and cases have been spreading since earlier this year. The FDA has authorized emergency use of Simparica TRIO to treat infestations in dogs. Dogs being transported out of state now require a veterinary health certificate issued within 72 hours of travel.
