Public Meeting Set on Proposed Orange County Levee System
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Galveston District is inviting the public to weigh in on a major proposed flood protection project for Orange County. A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20 from 6–8 p.m. at the Bridge City Community Center, 105 Parkside Dr, Bridge City, to discuss the 2026 Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay – Orange County Project. The proposed system includes approximately 20 miles of new earthen levees, 3 miles of concrete floodwalls, up to 200 drainage structures, 16 pump stations, and two navigable sector gates at Adams and Cow Bayous, along with coastal marsh restoration. Orange Shipyard Could Soon Be Busy Again
Good news for Orange County's maritime industry — Conrad Shipyard in Orange has been selected by the U.S. Navy to build a prototype for the new LCU-1770 landing craft, part of a contract awarded to three shipbuilders nationwide. Conrad was also awarded a separate contract to construct two deck barges for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With projects now underway at its Orange and Morgan City, Louisiana, facilities, Conrad's order book is filling up and activity at the local shipyard is expected to pick back up significantly. City of West Orange Joins Keep Texas Beautiful
West Orange has officially become an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide organization with more than 50 years of experience in litter prevention, community improvement, and recycling access. Through the partnership — now operating as Keep West Orange Beautiful — the city gains access to grants, training, and networking opportunities to help preserve and enhance West Orange's natural environment.
