Shangri La's 16th Annual Scarecrow Festival Opens October 6
Fall is on its way to Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange! The 16th Annual Scarecrow Festival runs October 6–24, featuring fall flowering displays, thousands of pumpkins, and more than 60 one-of-a-kind scarecrow exhibits crafted from recycled and repurposed materials. Visitors can vote for their favorite scarecrow, with winners announced at Autumn Fair. The festival is open Tuesdays–Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. Two special events round out the season: Sip and Stroll on October 15 (5–8 p.m.) with live music by Pendulum Hearts and wine from Free State Cellars, and Autumn Fair on October 24 (10:30 a.m.–3 p.m.) featuring a scavenger hunt, hayrides, pumpkin decorating, and more. Orangefield Water Supply Corp Fined $36,260 Over Wastewater Plant Issues
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has cited the Orangefield Water Supply Corporation for 12 violations at its wastewater plant near Bridge City, resulting in a required penalty of $36,260. The enforcement action highlights ongoing regulatory oversight of water and wastewater systems across Orange County. Bridge City High School Names 2026 Distinguished Alumni
The Bridge City High School Alumni Association has honored two outstanding graduates as its 2026 Distinguished Alumni. Tammi Peters Fisette (class of 1983) is the female honoree — a certified EMT, former firefighter and fire chaplain, four-term Bridge City City Councilwoman, and current Municipal Court employee whose life of service spans 35 years at Walmart, the Orange County Tax Office, and decades of volunteer work with first responders. Ty Gipson (class of 1988) is the male honoree — an entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and resilience advocate who built nationally recognized businesses, served on the Georgetown City Council, and developed his "No Options Mindset" after navigating three life-saving transplant surgeries. Both honorees have deep roots in Bridge City and family ties stretching back to the school's very first graduating class. Read More
