Vidor Rotary Club Challenges Community to Give $9.25 for Dolly Day
Today — September 25 — is Dolly Day, and the Rotary Club of Vidor is asking our community to make it count! The club is challenging everyone to donate $9.25 to support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which provides free books to children each month. Right now, 157 local children are enrolled through the Vidor Rotary Club alone — but there's always room for more little readers. A 122-Year Tradition — The Stark Foundation Reading Contest Honors Orange County Students
2026 Stark Reading Contest County Final First Place Winners: Austin Hathaway (Bridge City and Madeleine Doyle (Bridge City)
Since 1904, one of Orange County's longest-running academic traditions has celebrated the best student readers and speakers in the region. The Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation — now a scholarship program of the Stark Foundation — is held each spring at all five public high schools in Orange County. Top finishers compete in a countywide final where first and second place winners earn scholarships, and all 10 finalists receive gold watches, carrying on a tradition more than a century old. This year's county winners included Mariana Gonzales of West Orange-Stark High School (1st Place, Interpretive), Catalina Lawley of Orangefield High School (2nd Place, Interpretive), Elyse Walker of Vidor High School (1st Place, Declamation), and Hannah Edwards of Bridge City High School (2nd Place, Declamation). Broadway's Waitress Comes to Lutcher Theater October 24
Mark your calendars — the 10th Anniversary Tour of the hit Broadway musical Waitress is coming to the Lutcher Theater in Orange on Saturday, October 24 at 7 p.m. Featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, the show follows Jenna, a pie-making waitress who dreams of a fresh start. With heart, humor, and a whole lot of pie, Waitress has won rave reviews as "warm, witty, wise and hilarious."
