Stark Museum Invites Families to Try Pen & Ink Drawing for Inktober

Looking for a creative Saturday outing? The Stark Museum of Art is celebrating Inktober with a hands-on CREATE! Workshop: Pen & Ink Drawing on Saturday, October 17, with two sessions — morning (9:30–11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30–3:30 p.m.). Participants of all skill levels will explore line, shading, and pattern techniques to create their own original artwork. The workshop is open to adults and children ages 7 and up — kids under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. The materials fee is just $5, and space is limited to 20 people per session, so registration is required. Register for the morning or afternoon session at starkmuseum.org/create-workshops. Read More

Local Rescue Team Finishes 9th in the World at International Competition

Orange County can claim some international bragging rights — Triangle Rescue Team finished 9th out of 15 teams at the True North Rescue Challenge, a three-day international rescue competition. Team leaders Dylan Compton and Matt Wright, both first responders with the Port Arthur Fire Department, led the squad through grueling evaluations that tested every aspect of technical rescue: patient care, rigging, haul systems, and patient access under pressure. Competing against elite rescue teams from across the world and landing in the top 10 is a significant achievement that puts Southeast Texas on the international rescue map. Read More
