Orange County Opens New Health
Department Building

Orange County is nearing completion on a new $6 million health department building on FM 1442, near the Orange County Expo and Emergency Operations Center. The facility — made possible through grant funding — grew out of lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, when Orange and Hardin counties decided to end their 45-year shared health department arrangement. The building will offer immunizations, public health monitoring, and eventually medical care for county jail inmates, reducing costly transport trips to Beaumont. Dr. Calvin Parker leads the medical operation, with Jennifer Blankenship serving as department director. County Judge John Gothia says officials hope to have it fully operational soon.

West Orange Hosts Free Holiday in the Park
on Oct. 24

The City of West Orange will hold its annual Holiday in the Park event on Saturday, October 24, from 9 AM to 5 PM in the park next to City Hall at 2700 Western Ave. The free event features live entertainment, a car show, craft and gift booths, and food vendors. The entertainment lineup runs all day, including the Gulf Coast Playboys at 11 AM, Country Cousins at 1 PM, and Donnie Marze & John Jackson closing at 4 PM. LifeShare Blood Center will also be on site for anyone who’d like to donate.

The Carpenters Songbook: A Live Celebration Coming to Lutcher Theater

Lutcher Theater will host The Carpenters Songbook: A Live Celebration, a full-band tribute to Karen and Richard Carpenter from the creative team behind “The Simon & Garfunkel Story.” The show features heartfelt storytelling alongside beloved songs including “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Close to You,” and “Rainy Days and Mondays.” Tickets are available exclusively through Lutcher.org — the theater cautions against third-party resellers, as those tickets may be invalid at the door. The performance is on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
