LCM Bond, Orangefield and ESD2 Races on Nov. 3 Ballot

Orange County voters head to the polls on November 3 for several local races alongside statewide elections. Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD is asking voters to approve a bond refinancing measure — dubbed “Hurricane Refunding Bonds” — that would move Hurricane Harvey disaster loans into the district’s bond fund, freeing up an estimated $1 million per year for classroom expenses without raising the tax rate. The Orangefield ISD board has contested and uncontested races, including incumbent Ronald Risinger facing challenger Richard Lasseigne for Place 4. Emergency Services District No. 2 (Bridge City Fire and Rescue) voters will choose three commissioners from four candidates: Elgin Browning, Scott Barnes, Christopher Landry, and Herschel Glen Childers. Early voting runs October 19–30 at four locations across Orange County.

Bridge City ISD School Board Named Region 5 Board of the Year

The Bridge City ISD School Board was honored this weekend at TxEDCON in Houston — the annual convention of the Texas Association of School Boards and Texas Association of School Administrators — after being named Texas Education Region 5’s Board of the Year, recognizing it as one of the best boards in the state. As a tribute, Claycomb Associates Architects presented the board members and Superintendent Dr. Mike Kelly with custom bobblehead dolls in their likenesses. Board members are President Rebecca Rutledge, Vice President Joedy Cole, and trustees Paul Zoch, Jerry McInnis, Mark Anderson, Thad Hill, and Michael C. Johnson.

Orange Could Save $104,000+ by Paying Up Front for New Fire Engine

The City of Orange could save more than $104,000 by purchasing a new Pierce Enforcer fire engine outright rather than financing it, according to the city’s fire chief. The upfront payment option would deliver significant long-term savings to Orange taxpayers compared to a traditional financed purchase. The proposal was presented to the city council for consideration.
