Two Years After the Chemical Smell That Sent OC Residents Scrambling, the Bill Has Arrived

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has approved a $73,900 penalty against Eagle Railcar Services in Orange following complaints tied to the July 2024 chemical odor incident that prompted a shelter-in-place order for residents across West Orange, Bridge City, and Orangefield. The release involved ethyl acrylate during a controlled flaring operation at Eagle Railcar’s facility on Foreman Road. The TCEQ cited state regulatory violations related to the release — and after more than a year of enforcement proceedings, the penalty has now been finalized.

Santa’s calling — and he needs a squad. The 25 Days of Christmas – Support Local Bingo is recruiting Santa’s Elf Squad: Christmas lovers, social media fans, and anyone who loves shopping and exploring Orange County’s local businesses and events. One lucky elf even earns the title of Santa’s Favorite Elf. No pointy ears required (but not discouraged either). Sign up today and spread some Christmas cheer, one Bingo square at a time.
A $10,000 Investment in LSCO Students Is Building Southeast Texas’s Next Industrial Workforce

Lamar State College Orange is upgrading a critical hands-on training system thanks to a $10,000 investment from Port Arthur LNG. The funds will modernize the Distributed Control System (DCS) on LSCO’s Custom Process Trainer — equipment that mirrors what students in the college’s Instrumentation, Process Operating, and Electromechanical Technology programs will encounter on actual job sites. The existing system had become outdated and was at risk of being decommissioned. “This investment is about ensuring our students are learning with technology that prepares them for the careers waiting for them across Southeast Texas,” said LSCO President Dr. Wendy Elmore. Scallon Controls will perform the upgrade.
