I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

Orange County Property Tax Bills Are Out — And Your Mortgage Company May Owe You an Explanation

Orange County property tax bills are now available online, with paper copies being printed and mailed soon, Tax Assessor-Collector Octavia Guzman announced to Commissioners Court. County Judge John Gothia urged all homeowners with mortgages to pull up their bill and compare it to last year’s — and to scrutinize any increase in their monthly mortgage payment. Gothia said mortgage companies have been telling customers their payments are rising because of property tax increases, when the real driver is skyrocketing property and flood insurance premiums — a trend that has accelerated over 20 years of hurricanes and storms hitting Orange County.

Heads Up, Orange County: No Outdoor Burning Through October 30

A burn ban is now in effect for all unincorporated areas of Orange County, issued by County Judge John Gothia and effective as of 3:00 PM on Friday, October 23. The order will remain in place for seven days, through October 30, unless lifted sooner. The ban was put in place due to the risk that debris fires could spread out of control. Violating the order is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500. Exemptions include prescribed burns by Texas Parks and Wildlife and TCEQ-authorized burns for firefighter training and utility work.
